Description
RB-DLX-V2 Black Widow tube-frame Roof Rack Cargo Storage Basket. The Black Widow roof rack storage basket is great for carrying camping gear, luggage, and utility loads. Tubular side rails prevent the load from shifting and provide great attaching points for a cargo net. Mount to factory roof racks or multi-sport rack systems such as Yakima and Thule. Easy installation takes only minutes.
Customer Reviews
I originally wanted a roof basket for my Durango so I could safely mount my spare tire (it is too big to store where the spare should be). I was a little leery on the roof basket from Discount Ramps, but after getting it and installing it, I couldn't be happier! It went on easy and the extra cargo space is a definite plus when I go camping or on long fishing/hunting trips. The only thing I had an issue with was the crown shaped nuts that were supplied with the basket to mount it to the existing roof rack. They would never stay tight and the roof basket ended up shifting to the driver side of the truck after taking a corner. I went out and bought lock nuts for it and now it's nice and tight and won't move, no matter how hard I try to shake it. Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase.
I love it.
Some of the things I've noticed on other reviews
1. It's noisy. Yup, it's a bunch of tubes in the wind. Only noticeable with my sunroof open. And not too bad at "driving around town" speeds and the sunroof open.
2. Bolts stick up too far. I have this problem also. Later I'll cut the bolts. Problem fixed.
3. U-bolts don't fit or difficult to use. Yup. Don't tighten them till they are all on. Think before making a move.
Just a note. I also ordered the extension, and fairing. With the extension on my Escape, the front sticks out over my sunroof. The sunroof still works, this just sticks over it. Probably could have gotten by without the extension, but why skimp, I need the room sometimes.
Okay, I've had it a couple weeks, here's some more notes.
1. Love the extension. Thought about taking it off, but I had to carry a boxed table and chair set from a store. No way I'm taking it off now.
2. Cut the bolts down with a grinder. You may want to use a dremel, easier to control. Nicked the carrier in a few places and had to touch up the paint.
3. I replaced those awful hand-nuts with 1/4-28 lock-nuts. Make sure you get the right ones. 1/4-20 is more popular, you might grab the wrong one by mistake.
Summary. If you don't like to modify stuff, then this work sucks. But a little work, and it's perfect. They make this product to cover hundreds of models of vehicles, there's going to be some problems. A custom made for your specific vehicle will cost hundreds more. And I've seen plenty of worse out there.

The size, weight, and look of the cargo basket is great. The problem is that, no matter how I adjusted the rooftop racks on my LR3, the basket brackets would not fit. It took the better part of a day to figure it out. The solution was that I had to cut some pipe to fit where the basket comes together so that I could spread the brackets out enough to fit on my racks. That was cutting two different sized pipes, painting them black to match, putting silicone in to ensure they wouldn't slip and then it worked.
They should let you know which vehicles this basket fits.

Fits well on roof racks but bolts for attachments stick up too high into luggage or objects in basket causing abrasion or holes in things.
Going on a trip to the Outer Banks in October and needed much more room than our Jeep Patriot can provide. I researched and read a lot of reviews on cargo racks and decided to go with this one. The packaging is typical imported stuff, made in Taiwan, shipped in a plain cardboard box with printed lettering like you see on most other low-buck imports. It had a few scuff marks from shipping (must have went through rough seas on it's way from Taiwan) but has a nice black finish on it that appears to be durable. The two halves of the basket slip fit together and are fastened with 4 machine screws with allen heads (allen wrench IS included). No lock washers included and I didn't add any; I see the potential for these to vibrate loose so I'll probably add some lock washers to be safe. Installation was straight-forward, just took some repeated measuring to get it centered and squared up. I bought the universal steel cross bars to support the basket (also sold through discountramps). The included basket mounting hardware appeared adequate. Since it's a "universal" type fit, it doesn't fit together seamlessly like a custom-fit product but it feels secure on the bars. No tools required to install (beyond a tape measure). The plastic nuts have a regular metal hex nut molded in to secure the rack using the supplied u-bolts. One issue is that the nuts have to be located facing up through the bottom of the basket. The nuts have four protrusions that I assume were designed to prevent the end of the 1/4" u-bolts from poking holes in the cargo. Only problem is the nuts needed to be tightened to the point where the ubolts protruded beyond the plastic protrusions. I have not loaded any cargo yet (trip is a little more than a month away), but I did drive the Patriot at highway speed to check for wind noise; and it was there. It's not deafening, but noticeable and it may change when some cargo is loaded. Overall, I don't think you could get a better rack for the price. Once I see how it performs on the trip, I'll try to update.
Great rack for the price. Pretty simple to put together. Had trouble with a couple of the screws but nothing a little elbow grease didn't fix. Had to fight to get the holding clamps under my roof rack since my existing roof rack was close to the top of my roof, but managed to get them in. I am very pleased with the outcome and have had compliments already. I would definitely recommend this.
